What Is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is considered the holiest month in Islam. From dawn until sunset, those observing Ramadan fast — refraining from food and drink during daylight hours. The fast is broken each evening with a meal called iftar, often beginning with dates and water, followed by a shared dinner with loved ones. These nightly gatherings are filled with warmth, prayer, and togetherness.
However, fasting is only one part of its deeper meaning.
