Women’s History Month: Honoring the Women Attorneys of Dordick Law

Posted by Nava T. Dordick | Mar 07, 2025 | 0 Comments

March is Women's History Month, a time to recognize the contributions of trailblazing women who have shaped history—including those in the legal profession. At Dordick Law Corporation, we are proud to have a team of outstanding women attorneys who not only advocate for justice but also support and mentor the next generation of female lawyers.

My Journey: From Law Firm Leader to Licensed Attorney

Becoming an attorney was always my goal, but life had other plans. While raising five kids and helping build my husband Gary A. Dordick’s legal career, I put my own dream on hold. But once my children grew up—and three of them followed the path to law school—I knew it was finally my time.

In 2024, I passed the California State Bar Exam, officially becoming a licensed attorney after 25 years of running a law firm. Studying with the support and encouragement of my daughters, Michelle and Taylor Dordick, was a full-circle moment. They not only motivated me but also demonstrated what it means to be a successful female attorney in personal injury law—advocating for clients with intelligence, confidence, and resilience, even in the face of outdated attitudes in the legal profession.

The Women Attorneys of Dordick Law Corporation

At Dordick Law Corporation, we are privileged to work with some of the best female attorneys in personal injury law, including:

These women are more than just lawyers—they are advocates, leaders, and mentors who continually raise the standard of excellence in our field.

Challenges Women Attorneys Face in the Legal Industry

Women in law have made significant strides, but challenges still exist—particularly when it comes to work-life balance. One of the biggest struggles we see at our firm is women attorneys feeling the pressure to “do it all.”

For many, stepping away for maternity leave or family responsibilities isn't just a logistical challenge—it's an emotional one. Even in a firm like ours, where we encourage flexibility and family-first values, many of our attorneys put pressure on themselves to keep up their casework while juggling personal commitments.

This is why we prioritize a supportive work culture for women in law, ensuring that our attorneys know they can take the time they need—whether it's for family, health, or personal growth—without sacrificing their careers.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: A Legal Trailblazer Who Changed History

When discussing women in law, one name always stands out: Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Before her historic appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, Ginsburg was a pioneering civil rights attorney who spent her career dismantling gender-based discrimination. As a lawyer, she argued and won several landmark gender equality cases before the Supreme Court, often using a strategic approach—choosing cases where men were also disadvantaged by gender laws to highlight the need for change.

Her legal work led to groundbreaking victories, including Reed v. Reed (1971), which was the first case where the Supreme Court struck down a law on the basis of gender discrimination. She co-founded the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU, paving the way for future generations of female lawyers.

Appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993, Justice Ginsburg became the second woman to serve on the nation's highest court. Her powerful dissents and unwavering dedication to justice made her an icon, shaping issues related to gender equality, civil rights, and workers' protections.

Her career is a testament to the power of perseverance, intellect, and strategic advocacy—qualities that every woman in law can draw inspiration from.

Advice for Women Entering the Legal Profession

For women aspiring to become attorneys, particularly in personal injury law, my biggest advice is:

  • Find a mentor– Seek out an experienced attorney who aligns with your values and career goals.

  • Trust your instincts– Your intuition, education, and experiences will guide you more than you think.

Celebrating Women in Law: The Future is Bright

At Dordick Law Corporation, we celebrate women attorneys not just during Women's History Month, but every day. The legal profession is better when it reflects the strength, diversity, and dedication of women who fight for justice.

So here's to the women in lawpast, present, and future. May we recognize their contributions, support their successes, and continue to break barriers for the next generation.

Happy Women's History Month!
